Benefice changes its name and works in a new way

From January 1st 2022 the ‘Benefice of Peasedown St John with Wellow and Foxcote with Shoscombe’ has changed its legal name and will be working in a different way.

The St J’s Group new benefice name from January 1st 2022

Prior to January 1st 2022 the ‘Benefice of Peasedown St John with Wellow and Foxcote with Shoscombe’ operated as three separate parishes working together in a soft federation:
1. The Parish of Peasedown St John
2. The Parish of Wellow
3. The Parish of Foxcote with Shoscombe

Each parish had its own set of accounts, PCC, Church Wardens, Treasurer, Secretary and Deanery Synod representatives. All three had the same Vicar, Curate and Operations Manager. The cost of the Operations Manager was shared on the basis of 70%:15%:15% where the Parish of Peasedown picked up the 70% share.

From January 1st 2022 the legal name of the Benefice will change from the ‘Benefice of Peasedown St John with Wellow and Foxcote with Shoscombe’ to the ‘Benefice of the St J’s Group with Wellow’ which will now operate as two separate parishes in a soft federation:
1. The St J’s Group (Formerly the Parish of Peasedown St John and Foxcote with Shoscombe)
2. The Parish of Wellow

The Parishes of Peasedown St John and Foxcote with Shoscombe will now legally be known as “The St J’s Group” and instead of two PCCs with two sets of accounts, Church Wardens, Treasurer, Secretary and Deanery Synod representatives there will now only be one set.
The two parishes will continue to have the same Vicar, Curate and Operations Manager. The cost of the Operations Manager will now be shared on the basis of 85%:15% where the new St J’s Group will pick up the 85% share.
