Wellow All Age Worship

Coming together to worship as one Wellow church family

Shaula Reilly - Curate

We started a monthly All Age Worship service at Wellow in January 2022 with the aim of having a multisensory, relaxed, interactive service where all ages could come and worship and learn together.

Each service is planned by a team, bringing all our different ideas and taking responsibility for different parts of the service. There's a lovely atmosphere before the service with people chatting over coffee and croissants and again afterwards. It has been brilliant to have children and adults taking part in the service in all sort of planned and spontaneous ways. Most people seem to have taken part in some way at some time over the last year! A real highlight has been people from the planning team taking on leading the service and giving talks for the first time - and when Shaula was away on a placement at another church, taking on the planning and leading of the service without her. We have started to have an activity at the end of the service, such as biscuit decorating, using the firepit or making thaumatropes, which has kept younger people engaged and the chatting amongst the congregation continuing. The sermon themes have worked really well for all age worship - the I Am Sayings of Jesus in 2022 and The Body in 2023 - with lots of scope for imagination and creativity.

"I think this service is a nice time for kids to learn about the Bible. It's a nice time to come together on a Sunday. We can all come and it's just a nice time for everybody."

Really big thanks have to go to the congregation for supporting and embracing a new style of service once a month; to Pam, Rachel, Julia, Caroline and Pauline with all their ideas, talents and enthusiasm in the planning team; and to Steve Band and now Kim Cottle who have wonderfully enabled our musical worship.
