Jane Street, Deanery Synod Rep

Deanery Synod and the DMPG (leadership team) have continued to meet regularly. Matthew Street is still Area Dean, Kate Mayo Lay Dean. Lucy Barnes (Priston) has recently moved to the USA so there is a vacancy on the DMPG. The MSN Deanery still needs to lose one half post in the next 4-5 years so the deanery plan has been the major point of discussion.

Recent major changes around the deanery:

1) East Mendip Trinity with Rector Rev Clarissa Cridland is now formally established and comprises Coleford, Holcombe and Kilmersdon.

2) The Waterside Benefice with Rector Rev Ian Rousell comprising Radstock and Westfield. is also official now.

3) The PCC of Foxcote with Shoscombe has merged with the PCC of Peasedown St John to form the St J’s Group but formal recognition by the C of E is still awaited. Wellow remains a separate PCC. St J’s Synod members are Jo Vening and Jane Street. Wellow currently has two vacancies following the resignation of previous members.

4) Rev Tony Roake, House for Duty Priest in Camerton and Dunkerton retired at the end of 2022 so full responsibility for these parishes reverts to Rev Martin Blewett while the Deanery Plan is completed.

The 2022 Annual Deanery Service took place on Sunday 30th July in St John’s Midsomer Norton with Julia Hill, Bath & Wells Head of Deanery and Parish Support, and was an opportunity for us all to celebrate lay ministry around the deanery as no other services took place on that day. The 2023 Annual Deanery Service will take place on Sunday, July 30th.

A regular newsletter with information about events around the MSN deanery is being introduced in 2023 as part of the plan to enable greater awareness.

The current Deanery Synod runs from 2020-23 so there will be elections at all APCMs this year to elect a new synod for 2023-2026.
